DIY Camera Slider

A friend posted a link to a video on my facebook the other day. It was brilliant. Here’s is the link if you want to check it out.

In this video, there are a number of shots where the camera appears to move. On TV programs and Hollywood films you would expect these type of shots. The whole camera and its tripod are mounted on wheels and is slid along a track. It is unusual to see this in an adventure film though as it would require you to take a full track and dolly up the side of the mountain with you! ..and they aren’t small.

After reading their blog, I saw they were using a pocket dolly or camera slider. This is basically a smaller version of a full track and dolly but it fits on top of a tripod (or two). It can give the shot a really nice cinematic effect.

I decided I would have a go at making one of these myself, as I am a student and could afford a proper one!

Here is some test footage shot in Bristol, featuring my sisters feet and my dog!

This is really blood impressive, mate. Damn you and your ever inventive, productive self! Throw a little creativity my way, you bastard. :D

Seriously though, great stuff. Very simple and yet so effective.
